The Telegraph is reporting that Stellantis and Mercedes are putting their gigafactory ambitions on hold as EV sales slow.
Stellantis (owner of Fiat Chrysler and therefore also Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Dodge, Jeep, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot and Vauxhall) and Mercedes-Benz held plans to build three gigafactories in Germany, France and Italy in a €7bn attempt to match Asian competitors, but the slow growth of EV sales has caused the gigafactory scheme to be put on pause.
Automotive Cells Company (ACC) – the joint venture between the two and Total Energies – has reassessed the plan and is now only committing to developing at the pace that EV sales are growing.
ACC currently has one gigafactory in France.
