Something fun appeared in my inbox. The basic idea is that if you drive an EV, you are likely to be ‘fitter’. This doesn’t mean driving one will ensure high levels of muscle development, but rather it shows that gym users are more likely to be EV owners.
The research comes from charging network Be.EV and sporting goods retailer Decathlon, with a survey over 3,600 Decathlon shoppers and found that EV drivers were more likely to do cardio-intensive sports than their petrol and diesel counterparts, such as swimming (57 per cent vs 52 per cent), running (51 per cent vs 46 per cent) and cycling (69 per cent vs 61 per cent).
Perhaps more oddly, the research also found EV drivers are more likely to be adrenaline junkies, involved in spots such as skydiving, cold-water swimming and CrossFit, that no ICE driver mentioned.
Asif Ghafoor, CEO at Be.EV said: “There’s a lot of headlines out there about EVs and chargers, but not enough that discusses what EV drivers actually want and need. Our research with Decathlon helps the whole industry to understand what EV drivers do in their free time, and helps us to put chargers where they’re most likely to be.”
And that has mean that Be.EV has now placed a 16-bay ultra-rapid charging hub at Decathlon Wednesbury at Gallagher Retail Park, so perhaps the research wasn’t so frivolous after all.
