Northumberland County Council’s cabinet is consider the Northumberland Energy Park (NEP3) land site in Cambois for a new ‘hyperscale Datacentre campus’.
The site, formerly destined for a £4bn gigafactory under the Britishvolt banner, has become available after that venture fell into administration last year.
Council Leader, Cllr Glen Sanderson said: “The project would represent a significant inward investment of up to £10bn, putting our County at the forefront of developments in the digital economy, and delivering over 1,600 direct jobs, including 1,200 long-term construction jobs, and over 2,700 indirect jobs over the course of the development.”
Currently the UK has one EV battery plant next to Nissan's Sunderland factory, the West Midlands Gigafactory in development and the Tata Agratas gigafactory being built on the Gravity Smart Campus near Bridgwater, Somerset.
