It’s been a long time in coming, but BYD has reportedly caught Tesla in annual sales revenue for 2024.
BYD reported a revenue rise of 29 per cent to $107bn, compared to the ‘mere’ $97.7bn reported by Tesla.
Although both manufacturers sold roughly equal numbers of EVs, around 1.8 billion each, the extra revenue from BYD’s hybrid cars more than doubles its numbers. BYD has also made no secret of its plans to take on Tesla head on with cheaper rival offerings to the US maker’s most popular model, the Model 3.
BYD also recently announced faster charging technology (as reported here) that it hopes will give it an edge on day-to-day use.
