Water Plus has gained a net-zero standard for science-based target and reduction pathway.
As the UK’s largest business water retailer, Water Plus accreditation confirms its reduction pathway exceeds the science-based target trajectory for 1.5C.
It is the first business water retailer to achieve a net-zero target aligned to science-based targets and achieved the net-zero standard through working with Carbon Footprint, with a net-zero target for 2040.
Jason Scagell, chief executive of Water Plus, said: “More businesses are seeing the benefits of looking towards their approach to water to cut carbon emissions, alongside reducing wholesaler costs and energy use, and our team’s support on this is an essential part of what we’re doing to reduce environmental impacts and tackle the climate change challenge.”
Large-scale water-saving projects and proactive water management programmes for customers, include a 42.5 per cent water saving, on average daily use, delivered in 2025 for a West Midlands site, and a 48 per cent water-saving on a Staffordshire site, on average daily use. In total, 750 sites have been helped to save water.
Water Plus, which opened a new HQ office site in Trentham Lakes in February 2025, following a multi-million pound investment it made in Staffordshire, also has an office location in Bellshill, near Glasgow, and has supported projects that prevent carbon emissions, including peatland restoration in Scotland and seagrass restoration around the UK.
