The demand for EV batteries is rising, but they require exact engineering and intricate assembly, and disassembly. Robotics can help increase speed, accuracy, and scalability of the processed dramatically. From handling delicate cells to seamless welding, robots can transform battery manufacturing and can also create safer processes.
Extend Robotics, a specialised robotics company, has demonstrated a virtual reality (VR) controlled robot that can automatically put together battery modules in a move that could cut production costs in UK EV production.
Dr Chang Liu, CEO at Extend Robotics, said: “Extend Robotics tackles industry challenges with a fully immersive VR-based human-robot interface, enabling users to intuitively monitor, manage, and train robots. Positioned to address labour shortages and risks in harsh working conditions, Extend Robotics has demonstrated tangible success in EV manufacturing, validating the practical impact of its technology.”
