SSE Renewables has announced its principal contractor and battery supplier for its largest 320MW battery storage project at Monk Fryston, North Yorkshire.
Morrison Energy Services, a part of M Group Services’ Energy Division, has been appointed as the project’s principal contractor. Sungrow, who is also working with SSE Renewables on its nearby Ferrybridge battery storage project, will supply the battery energy storage system.
SSE Renewables took a final investment decision on the project in November 2023 and the site aims to energise in late 2025. Once completed, the 320MW battery storage facility will be capable of running for up to two hours at a time, and when fully operational, it will be one of the largest battery storage projects in the UK, storing power for release back to the National Grid helping to manage peaks of energy demand.
