The first six months of 2025 saw a record number of solar panels, batteries and heat pumps installed according to figures from MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme).
Over 172,000 MCS certified renewable technology installations were made between January and June, an increase of 37 per cent year-on-year. The clear winner were solar panels, with around 123,000 installs, and beating the previous record in 2012.
Heat pumps made 30,000 installations, a 12 per cent increase on H1 2024, but far behind the Governments targets of 600,000 per annum.
Batteries, generally a far more costly technology, came in at 18,000 installations, but still a doubling over H1 2024.
Around a quarter of the installations were made on new build properties.
