The Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders has published open letter ahead of COP30 underlining the commercial viability of the climate economy and the sharp contrast to the escalating costs of inaction.
Founded in 2014, the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders contains over 130 CEO from companies from Coca-Cola to Ikea, representing $4tr in revenues and 12 million employees.
The open letter, addressed to world leaders ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference 2025 (COP30), urges businesses and policymakers to continue investments in building low-carbon, climate resilient businesses in the face of strong headwinds.
The makes a call to action, saying that a ‘wait-and-see approach’ is not viable, and outlines ways to speed the transition by creating long-term policies and regulations, and incentives, giving businesses the confidence to commit capital in emerging sectors, and plan for sustainable growth.
More specific polices include streamlining planning and approvals that could cut project timelines by up to 50 per cent for wind and 75 per cent for solar, supporting investments and policies for nature and building climate-resilient economies and food systems.
The letter ends by admitting that achieving a transformation will require deeper collaboration between the public and private sectors and coordinated cross-regional action around policy, finance and innovation, but that actions taken now can determine the speed and scale of that transformation.
