Figures from NESO show that 18,314GWh of solar generation in the UK during 2025.
The figures are a near one third jump on the previous year and accounted for 6.3 per cent of overall power in 2025, due to increased installations and a greater number of sunshine hours.
Zoisa North-Bond, CEO at Octopus Energy Generation, commented: "What a smashing year for UK solar. It’s amazing to see just how much has changed, and how fast. Even under our famously grey skies, solar is now powering ahead, delivering huge amounts of reliable, low-cost clean energy.
The figures are to mid-December, and the lasted monthly figures for November still show solar adding 2.2 per cent of energy to the mix, with wind the greatest contributor at 37.1 per cent followed by gas (27.2 per cent).
