According to reports in the Telegraph, the Government is mulling a salary sacrifice incentive to encourage homeowners to move from boilers to heart pumps.
Such a proposal would allow any monthly instalments to pay back the cost of installation to be deducted from pay-packets pre-tax in a similar way to pensions or indeed EVs.
Heat pump take off, although accelerating, is nowhere near the levels it needs to be to reach the Government’s net-zero targets, and some resistance can be attributed to costs of around £5,000 even after grants.
In April DESNZ announced it was launching a new consultation on expanding the Boiler Upgrade Scheme to give homeowners a wider range of options, with “new purchase and ownership models” which could spread the cost, including leasing.
