A lot of renewable dots

The latest (July 2024) Renewable Energy Planning Database (REPD) shows that the UK now has over 11,000 renewable electricity projects of over 150kW progressing in the planning system and construction (shown on the map).

Including solar (the majority) onshore wind, storage, biomass and others, the total potential capacity to generate and store is over 250MW.

REPD tracks the progress of new renewable energy projects as they move through the planning system, from inception, to construction and to operation, the minimum threshold for installed capacity was 1MW until 2021, at which point it was lowered to 150kW. This means that projects below 1MW that were going through planning system before 2021 may not be represented in the REPD and the total may be much higher.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) also publishes data on heat network projects, of which there are over 1,000 non-domestic projects, of various heat sources and sizes.
The data comes from Barbour ABI on behalf of DESNZ and is mainly sourced from the web and developers, and therefore represents more of a ‘snapshot’ than a comprehensive survey, and not all applicants will be granted.
