New climate script at Pinewood Studios

Keir Starmer has ‘reset’ the government after five months with a set of ‘milestones’ that include a significant reduction in climate targets.

The new ‘Plan for Change’ released at the Pinewood film studios, the home of the Carry On films, contained six aims, the fifth being on creating 95 per cent clean power by 2030, a watering down of the original pledge to “lead the world with 100 per cent clean power by 2030”.

There was also a ‘promise’ to streamline the approval process in the forthcoming Planning and Infrastructure Bill and a setting of a target for 150 ‘major’ infrastructure projects by the end of the current Parliament.

RenewableUK welcomed the Prime Minister's new targets for clean energy and major infrastructure with chief executive Dan McGrail saying: “Increasing the roll out of new wind and solar farms in the UK is clearly going to require us to speed up planning approvals, so it’s great to see Government put firm targets in place for the number of major infrastructure projects it will confirm in the next five years.”
