The UK needs to more than double its current rate of installing electric vehicle (EV) charge points to meet the 2030 target of 300,000 units.
New analysis by Cornwall Insight has found that between April 2023 and March 2024, 16,061 charge points were installed, averaging just over 1,300 per month.
Continuing at this pace, the UK would miss its target by nearly 120,000 charge points.
To meet the target of 300,000 set out by the Government, the installation rate needs to increase to 2,800 per month, according to Cornwall Insight.
Despite the Government's decision to delay the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles from 2030 to 2035, the 2030 target for EV charge points has remained in place.
Cornwall Insight suggested delays to programmes such as the Rapid Charging Fund have slowed the charge points rollout. The fund faced several rescheduling issues before eventually launching in December 2023.
