RR appoints Todd to spearhead SMRs

Ruth Todd CBE will join Rolls-Royce SMR as operations and supply chain director. Todd is tasked with an immediate focus on the industrialisation and scale up of small modular reactors (SMR).

In previous roles, Ruth was on the Covid-19 UK Vaccine Task Force, where she led the programme to deliver coronavirus vaccines for the UK.

Todd said: “We have an opportunity at Rolls-Royce SMR to transform power generation and provide clean, sustainable energy for generations to come. I am excited by the opportunity to bring my experience in infrastructure delivery to the business and support its future growth and success as we shift into a project delivery organisation at home and overseas.”

The Rolls-Royce SMR is the UK’s first domestic nuclear technology in more than 20 years. Rolls-Royce SMR has received Government funding of £210m as part of Phase 2 of the Low-Cost Nuclear Challenge Project, administered by UKRI, which has been supplemented by £280m of private capital. The aim of this Government support is to accelerate the Rolls-Royce SMR design and pass at least Step 2 of the GDA (Generic Design Assessment) regulatory process carried out by the nuclear industry’s independent regulators (The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales).
