Private capital returns to green funds

Private capital is coming back into climate-focused funds, with the first six months of 2026 reaching $5.5bn, according to mid-year industry data and analysis released by the Global Private Capital Association (GPCA).

In these six-month, funding by 23 entities for green funds surpassed 2025 exceeding the $4.2bn raised by 36 funds across the entirety of 2025.

Causes of the shift are, of course, highly speculative, but the recent energy shocks due to Iran and general global political support for renewables must play a part. It should also be noted that the majority of the capital has been earmarked for larger and more mature projects.
