EDF has signed agreements on two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects developed by Trinasolar ISBU.

Located in England and Scotland, the projects will deliver a combined 180MWh of storage capacity, supporting system flexibility, grid stability and the integration of low-carbon generation across the UK.

The agreements cover two battery projects: the Ruby BESS project near Aberdeen, a 40MW/80MWh facility scheduled to become operational in October 2026 and the Chatterley BESS project in Gloucestershire, a 50MW/100MWh asset expected to reach commercial operation in March 2027. Both projects are designed with two hours of storage duration and will provide flexible capacity to support local and national grid requirements.

Stuart Fenner, commercial director of business and wholesale services at EDF, said: “As renewable generation and electrification continue to grow, flexible assets such as battery storage are becoming increasingly important to maintaining system stability.
