The Jackdaw gas field is the best option to reduce carbon, a DNV submission to DESNZ says.

DNV, the Norwegian emissions specialists, has claimed that drilling in the North Sea would be one of the greenest sources of gas as developers and operators attempt to get a positive decision on Jackdaw. The DNV submission to a public consultation on Jackdaw, makes the case that carbon emissions would increase if the proposals were rejected and the UK used imports of gas.

Gas, unlike oil where most is exported on the international market an, is used domestically in the UK, but the UK still 60 per cent is imported from Norway or the US.

Environmental groups have, generally, campaigned against the scheme. Just Stop Oil supporters recently protested outside Parliament in an attempt at stopping the Prime Minister from leaving his first PMQs.

The Jackdaw and Rosebank fields have been stuck in legal and governmental limbo, but the signs are that the Prime Minister is ‘minded’ to approve the fields as part of a more ‘pragmatic’ approach to energy than his predecessor, and former Energy Secretary.
