The Government has published its clean energy economy strategy, with a further £700m funding for Great British Energy to invest in clean energy supply chains.
It has been clean that there is an intention to create more products and services in the UK, possibly as a reaction to the headl9ines around the Chinese manufacture of solar panels, and the Clean Energy Industries Sector Plan states clearly that it has a mission to ‘build it in Britain’.
It comes after the Spending Review confirmed the programme of investment in homegrown energy with funding to build Sizewell C nuclear power station, SMRs and £9.4bn for carbon capture industries.
As part of the plan, Great British Energy will have £700m to help build manufacturing facilities for key components in addition to the initial £300 million for offshore wind supply chains. With private funding, including that from the Crown Estate, the total public and private funding in clean energy supply chains currently stands at £1.7 bn.
The Clean Industry Bonus, the financial reward scheme for offshore wind developers to invest in homegrown, cleaner supply chains, might, DESNZ, also be expanded to more sectors, such as hydrogen and onshore wind.
