BYD has unveiled its Super e-Platform capable of peak charging speeds of 1MW. Such a charge could allow cars that use the technology to have a range of 250 miles after only five minutes of charging.
Such a charging rate, if truly available in the consumer market, would be around two to three times faster than the fastest charging Mercedes or Tesla.
BYD said the features will be available on its China-only Han L and Tang L cars and will add over 4,000 of the ultra-fast charging units across China.
BYD says the use of lower resistance in the battery (internal resistance is claimed to be 50 per cent lower) with an ultra-high-speed ion channel from the anode to the cathode.
