Last week's DESNZ Public Attitudes Tracker revealed 79 per cent of the public are concerned about climate change, yet more than half don't know what climate information to believe.
Trust in national government on climate has fallen to 50 per cent, down from 57 per cent just a few months ago.
Bad decisions, bad communications and an incoherent North Sea policy haven’t exactly helped, and when added to a general distrust of this government you can see a picture where essential facts are lost in a blur of untruths.
This is where misinformation thrives.
Local government. however, generally has more trust than national government and in response local authorities are launching UK100 Connect, a new climate communications and engagement network.
Through expert-led training, real-time intelligence sharing and a supportive community of practice, the programme could strengthen local authorities’ confidence in navigating the climate communications landscape.
Perhaps not all trust is lost just yet!
