Sunsave raises £113m for solar subscriptions

The UK’s first solar subscription service providers, SunSave, has received £113m of funding to expand its subscription model of rooftop solar panels.

Founded in 2022 by Oxford University alumni Alick Dru and Ben Graves, Sunsave has grown over rapidly since launching its subscription service, Sunsave Plus, in January 2024.

The subscription model removes upfront costs, meaning customers benefit from cheaper energy whilst paying fixed monthly payment, but crucially customers have full ownership of the system from the moment of installation. The package includes the bespoke system design, solar and battery systems and insurance from Aviva.

The company was initially awarded £2.2m from the Government via its Green Home Finance Accelerator initiative to fund the research, development and launch of Sunsave Plus. Since it has attracted investor including Norrsken and Plug and Play (who backed Paypal, Google and Airbnb). New investors include Clearance Capital.
