Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) customers can now access UK Power Networks’ Distributed Energy Resources Management System (DERMS), allowing users to use the intelligent platform managing renewable and flexible energy assets in real time.

This innovation should enable IDNO connected projects to connect faster, at lower cost, and with greater flexibility and help create a greener energy system.

High-demand customers, such as EV hubs, can make the most out of their electricity use, while households and local communities gain quicker access to green energy. The wider network also operates more efficiently and reliably, supporting the integration of additional low-carbon technologies.

DERMS can be used for sites that generate energy like solar farms, but can also support customers who only consume electricity. For example, Gridserve’s EV charging hub at Extra Motorway Services, Cobham, is now connected, the first fully-flexible demand customer connecting to an IDNO network.
