Insurers face mass protest

On Wednesday 15 May the Manchester Stop EACOP (East African Crude Oil Pipeline) coalition will be holding a peaceful protest during the largest insurance event of the year, the BIBA Conference in the Manchester.

The protest will be calling on the insurance industry to pledge to not cover fossil fuel projects such as the West Cumbria coal mine and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

Martin Porter said on behalf of the Manchester Stop EACOP Coalition "Without insurance, climate wrecking fossil fuel projects can't go ahead. Those who have contributed least to the problem are going to be most affected, and we have collected some of their voices in the hope of persuading the insurance industry to stop backing fossil fuel projects. These are people who accept the science and understand risk. We believe they will see that as well as the moral case for climate action, and as well as the reputational risk of not acting, there is a very strong business case for investing in a cleaner, greener future."
