Octopus and Bellway announce Zero Bills partnership

Octopus Energy today announces a long-term partnership with housebuilder Bellway Homes to deliver ‘Zero Bills’ housing at scale.

Zero Bills will allow customers to move into homes in which they will have no energy bills for at least five years. Using green energy technology that includes air-source heat pumps, a home batteries, and roof-mounted solar panels, the home owners might otherwise need to spend around £1,800 a year on energy bills.

Bellway is the first major housing developer to engage with the project, currently building three Zero Bills homes at its Victoria Gate development in Stafford as part of the company’s Future Homes research project, which will go on the market in December 2023. From 2024, a further 250 Zero Bills homes are planned at a Bellway development in Bedfordshire, with the potential for more sites to follow.

The Future Homes Standard is a government initiative requiring new homes to reduce carbon emissions by 75 per cent and is due to come into force in 2025. Bellway’s research project is also tied to its ambitious sustainability strategy, Better with Bellway, which includes a commitment to significantly reduce carbon emissions through the setting of Science-Based Targets and by designing homes to meet new energy efficiency standards and utilising green technologies.
